Google To Webmaster: Cut Down On Similar Content Pages

Google Chainsaw Cut Down

A webmaster or business owner was upset his website dropped in its Google search rankings and complained in the Google Webmaster Help forums. Google's Aaseesh responded that the webmaster needs to do a few things:

(1) Improve the overall content quality

(2) Cut down on the number of pages with similar content

(3) Cut down on the other domains with similar content

We know content pruning can be a strategy used for SEO but did it work for Panda and is it safe? Lots of confusion is around this topic because of different messaging conveyed by Google.

But in this case, this Googler is telling this webmaster to content on his similar content. A simple site search may show the issue:
