Google Displays AMP Icon Within Story Image

Google AMP

Google is showing the AMP icon in the carousel within the story image, as opposed to outside of the story image. You can still see both versions depending on the type of snippet you are looking at.

For example, here for the site specific snippet that shows the news carousel with articles only from a specific site, you can see the AMP icon right in the featured image:

But in the Top Stories carousel, the AMP icon is outside of the image:

I am not sure if this is new or I just didn't notice this difference before. Mordy Obserstein felt it was new and posted it on Twitter.

This is not a big deal but I do wonder why the different user interface treatment for the AMP logo based on the two types of queries.
