Every year, Google adds decorations to their search results for the holidays. They did it a couple weeks ago for Hanukkah and they do it every year for Christmas, Kwanzaa and heck, even Festivus.

This is the first year, Google has gone animated with one of the holiday decorations. If you search for [christmas] related terms you may see it:

Gee, what a waste of time and money. I wish they'd use it elsewhere, as in finding a way to target search on rich content rather than linking.

Totally not a waste of time or money. It adds a human element to their otherwise completely automated machine. It's good PR.
