Google News Adds New Referral Source: news.url.google.com

Google Newspaper Indexing

Elena from Google posted in the Google News Help forums that they have made an adjustment to their system and thus to properly track all your Google News referral sources you must add news.url.google.com to the list.

So referrals from Google News will come from both:

  • news.google.com
  • news.url.google.com

Elena said "looking at both these sources will provide a comprehensive view of traffic from Google News."

(A) news.google.com includes traffic from native mobile apps, mobile web, and RSS feeds setup with the legacy URL pattern.

(B) news.url.google.com includes traffic from desktop and RSS feeds setup with the new URL pattern.

This seems to be directly related to the Google News RSS feeds change, which broke all my feeds. Don't worry, I repaired them all last week manually.
