Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.

Search Engine Roundtable Stories:

  • Hubble Telescope Launch Remember By Google
Saturday marks the 20th birthday of the Hubble Telescope launch. Specifically, April 24, 1990 was the launch date and to remember the date, Google posted a special logo on their home page. The logo is now live at Google Australia where it is already Saturday. Here is a picture: The neat part is that if you click on the planets, it takes you to Google Sky. I should note that NASA and Google teamed up
  • Google Caffeine Unofficially Live on 80% of Google Data Centers?
We have covered the Google Caffeine index update at exhaustion here. So I won't summarize all the times people thought it was live and all the times we saw issues with what appeared to be Caffeine. If you like, scan through our archives. An updated WebmasterWorld thread has many convince webmasters and SEOs saying Caffeine is live in the majority of Google's data centers. Senior member, whitenight said: For the UNOFFICIAL record, I'm calling Caffeine
  • Google's St. George's Day In UK & Children's Day In Turkey Logos
Google has two new logos up today, one on Google UK and another on Google Turkey. In the UK, they are celebrating St. George's Day and in Turkey they are celebrating Children's Day. Here are the doodles: Google's St. George's Day Doodle: Google's Children's Day Doodle: Both very neat logos. Of course, we have at least one complaint. • Google Turns Off Most v13 AdWords API Services
Google and I probably did a total of 50 warnings that the Google AdWords API is closing down v13 and migrating to v200909. That finally happened yesterday when Google closed down most of the v13 API services. The specific services that went offline include: CampaignServiceAdGroupServiceCriterionServiceAdServiceInfoServiceKeywordToolServiceSiteSuggestionService Have beef with this? Take it up in the forum. • Google Can't Drive From London To Nottingham
If you try to use Google Maps UK to get driving directions from London to Nottingham, you will be out of luck. According to Google Maps there is no way to get from one city to the next. Try it, go to Google Maps, click on driving directions, enter in London to Nottingham and click go. You will be presented with an error that reads, "We could not calculate directions between London and Nottingham." Here
  • Google Maps Adds Smooth Scrolling
Google Operating System spotted that Google Maps added "kinetic scrolling," which is a form of smooth fluid scrolling, on Google Maps. Basically, as you pane through the mouse with your mouse, the map will slowly continue to scroll and slow as you let go. A video best describes it: I like this addition to Google Maps, do you? Other additions include BlackBerry Storm 2 upgrade for Google Maps for mobile and a new Google Maps
  • Do UK Based Google AdSense Publishers Earn More?
An interesting WebmasterWorld thread has a lot of speculation around UK AdSense publishers earning more money with Google solely based on the fact of their location. Let me share publisher's comments about this. My website had its own adsense account for 2.5 years with my home address (somewhere in Europe) until mid-last year when I moved to the UK. I created a new adsense account with a UK address (payee name exactly the same as
