Google+ Local Page MergeGoogle seems to have a backlog in the number of business verifications they have to manage within Google Maps / Local / Places.

A Google Business Help thread has one business owner complaining he submitted his code into Google Places 3 weeks ago but the business listing is still not verified.

Google Places representative Jade Wang said Google is delayed more than normal. She said:

We were experiencing longer delays than usual at the end of 2012 and this page may have been affected.

So if you submit your code to Google, that is if you even get a code, then you may have to wait a while right now.

It should be noted however that Google has confirmed with Mike Blumenthal that they also have phone support for the verification process and are saying that it will be a permanent feature. So users with this issue should hopefully have some better support moving forward - http://blumenthals.com/blog/2013/01/08/google-local-now-providing-phone-support-for-verification-issues/

Actually that post and Jade's reply was not about verification delays. He said he got the pin and is verified. The issue is the "pending" message lagging in the dashboard AFTER verification and that's what Jade is referring to. Not a lagging of verifications going out. The current normal is that listings continue to get the "pending review" flag for a few weeks after verification. Search maps via phone and you'll normally see the listing is live and well. It's just the "pending" message that lags in dash for awhile.
