SEOs Continue To Dissect Eric Enge's Interview of Google's Matt Cutts

Mar 17, 2010 - 8:26 am 4 by

As most SEOs know, Eric Enge interviewed Matt Cutts, of Google. Eric is probably one of the best technical interviewers I know, so whenever he posts an interview, I try to read them carefully. When he posted an interview of Matt Cutts, I, as well as other SEOs, really read it carefully.

The biggest tidbit that came out of the interview was that 301 redirects lose some PageRank when used. We discussed just that the other day and it was a pretty hot topic. But there are many other important topics and items that were revealed in this excellent interview.

A WebmasterWorldthread is discussing them and I wanted to bullet point most of those tidbits.

  • 301 redirects don't pass all of its PageRank
  • Crawling and indexing is related to PageRank of the pages
  • Low PageRank pages compete internally with higher PageRank pages
  • Google automatically will migrate duplicate page's (that they deem to be dups) PageRank for you
  • Don't use session IDs
  • Paid affiliant links are normally detected and not counted
  • Blocking pages in your robots.txt won't save your crawl budget
  • Shared servers may impact the number of pages Google crawls of your site.

Those are just some of the interesting tidbits from Eric Enge interview of Matt Cutts.
