Google: Closed Job Listings Can Result In Manual Action Penalty

Google Job Post Terminated

Google's new guidelines around Job Postings and listings requires that you remove any job postings on your web site that have been filled. If you do not remove the listing, you can get a manual action and Google can penalize your site from showing job posting schema in the future.

The guideline reads:

Jobs that are no longer open for applications must be expired in one of the following ways. Failure to take timely action on expired jobs may result in a manual action.

You can remove these listings one of four ways:

  • Remove the JobPosting markup from the page.
  • Remove the page entirely (so that requesting it returns a 404 or 410 status code).
  • Add a noindex meta tag to the page.
  • Ensure the validThrough property is populated and in the past.
