A HighRankings Forums thread asks a fun question, why did you get into the SEO field? I decided to tweet the question via @rustybrick and I received some quick responses. The purpose of the tweet was to try to create a generic poll, which I could use to post here and get a larger set of responses.
Here is the poll, I hope I am not missing any answers.

I think sometimes is more than one reason. It could be a combination of interest in the area and desire to get your website on top of rankings.

I agree, I couldn't decide to pick, "because I wanted my site higher" or "love the competition." I the end I decided I'd go what drives me now because I can't remember exactly what got me into it back in 1998 when I was starting out. "I love the competition."

Just about every answer on the poll is why I like SEO so much - the biggest thing being the dynamics of the industry...and I'm still a newbie in the game.
