Stoney deGeyter

This is part of the say something nice about an SEO/SEM series - feel free to nominate someone over here.

Stoney deGeyter is 45 and lives in Ohio with his family. He has been in marketing and SEO space for around two decades, yea - that long. He started the company he still is in charge of in 1998. In addition, he is always publishing content, sharing information, speaking at events, and so much more for so many years.

He contributes his content and ideas not just on his own site but also to industry publications. He is always looking to speak at industry events as well. Overall, he is a guy who has been helping the industry get smarter for a really long time now.

Julie Graff nominated Stoney and wrote:

Stoney is a pioneer in the industry, helping businesses optimize their web presences since 1998. He touted concepts such as usability, holistic digital marketing, and focusing on growth rather than rankings before it was common to do so. He is the author of the definitive digital marketing resource The Best Damn Web Marketing Checklist, Period! and is a frequent industry speaker, delivering actionable tips in a easy-to-understand way and often with a little humor.

Stoney deGeyter Bio: Author, speaker, teacher, husband, father, web marketer!

Graduating high school at the age of 16, Stoney has always had an entrepreneur spirit. In 1998 he founded Pole Position Marketing, now one of the longest-running digital marketing agencies in existence. Over the past twenty-plus years he has become a leader in the digital marketing space, helping hundreds of businesses grow their online authority through strategic and effective digital marketing strategies.

He authored The Best Damn Web Marketing Checklist, Period! which is the perfect desk-reference for digital marketers and managers of all skill levels. You can also see his articles published on Search Engine Land, Marketing Land, Search Engine Journal, as well as Pole Position Marketing’s E-Marketing Performance blog, and has written a number of ebooks that can be found on the Pole Position Marketing website. And if that’s not enough, Stoney frequently teaches digital marketing at conferences nationwide, including PubCon, Search Marketing Expo (SMX), Affiliate Summit, and can also be hired to provide in-house training to help your in-house digital marketing team.

What Stoney loves most about digital marketing is that it’s all about creating jobs. The more businesses Pole Position Marketing helps, the more people find jobs and improve their standard of living, which in turn provides even more jobs.

Favorite thing about the SEO community? Their openness to share strategies and tactics. To be friends even while we are competitors.

One piece of advice to the SEOs out there? Don't chase Google. Make Google chase you.

Favorite things in general? Movies: Guardians of the Galaxy. Genres: Sci-Fi TV Show: Battlestar Galactica (2004) Soundtracks: John Wick Activity: Whatever the opposite of networking is. Finish writing a science-fiction novel.

What you want to be known for in the SEO space? That's a tough one. I guess for being an all-around nice guy who knows his digital marketing and wrote an incredible series of checklists that helps businesses at all levels of building a strong digital presence.
