Stolen Content A Problem For You? Add Links To Yourself.

link baitA HighRanking Forum thread talks about a common concern many SEOs and webmasters face - stolen content potentially outranking them.

In fact, this piece of content will likely be stolen about 50 times in the next 2 hours. :)

That being said, what can you do about it?

We do have a detailed article with several tips from Google's Matt Cutts himself named Google On Outranking Stolen Content. But what else can you do? How can you make stolen content work for you?

You can add links in your content that link back to that piece of content. This way, the 50 people who rip off this content, at least a nice percentage of them will just take your content and keep the links intact and link back to you. Who knows, maybe it will help you. :)

One person who tried this said:

I rank very well for that particular post. I knew this day would come so I planted a link in the copy back to me - and this guy is such an idiot that he didnt check so he sends me traffic!

But this webmaster is also concerned that a content spam blog is linking back to his blog and thus potentially having bad links pointing to his site. Should he worry? Would you not take this approach?

That is a good question. The last thing you want these days is not only stolen content outranking you but also hurting you. You do not want your clever trick to come back and bite you. So what do you do?
