Google Images Dropped Custom Date Range Filter

Google Time

Google Image Search has dropped the custom date range filter when you try to filter by time. This seems to have been removed a few months ago, so this is not "new" but I missed reporting this.

Now you can only filter images by the past 24 hours, past week, past month and past year. If you want to go older than that, you are out of luck.

Here is a screen shot of the new user interface:

There are numerous complaints in the Google Web Search Help forums since September 2019 on this issue. One user said "I can still use a custom date range in a search, but not in an image search." That is true, for now, the custom date range filter is available in search but not image search.

I can see why some might want to search for older images beyond a year ago, so I am not sure why Google removed the feature. I suspect if I asked Google, Google would say "lack of use."

Earlier this year, Google dropped the exact size and larger than filters for image search.
