Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums on September 30 & October 1, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.

Search Engine Roundtable Stories:

  • 56% Of SEOs To Change Strategy For Google Instant & 43% Wont
Last week I asked our readers to tell me if they would change their SEO strategy due to the Google Instant release. Honestly, I thought more people would say no, but many said they would. 45% said they would change their SEO strategy a little, almost 9% said they would change their SEO strategy a lot. Only 43% said they would not change their SEO strategy at all. Here is the break down of the
  • Google Reader Stops Page Tracking Feature
Earlier this year, Google Reader began allowing users to track any web page via Google Reader. Personally, I set up many pages to track for changes and now. Last week, Google Reader announced they are removing the feature as of September 30th. All those pages I set up for tracking, gone! I have to switch them over to a new tracking program. Google said: As of September 30th, we’ll be turning off track changes in
  • Most People Like Bing's HTML5
Two weeks ago, Bing released a demo of the new Bing search experience on an HTML5 browser. I believe it still currently only works on the Internet Explorer 9 beta, not other HTML5 enabled browsers like Firefox, Chrome or Safari. Even so, I asked some of you willing to try it out on IE9 to let me know what you think of it. The about 100 results are in and most of you, over 80%
  • Google Drops Old Keyword Tools: New Tool Out of Beta
Google has been testing the new keyword tool for about a year now. Last week, Google announced they are confident enough with it to let it out of beta. That means the previous Keyword Tool and Search-based Keyword Tool are no longer available in AdWords. There is now one single keyword tool and it is available when you login to your AdWords account or via adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal. Google said the tool offers: Flexible search options: Search

  • Google's Most Trusted SEOs Lash Out Over The "May Day Monster"
We have covered the May Day Google ranking algorithm update many many times now. But I was pointed to an interesting thread on the topic created by a Google Webmaster Help "Top Contributor." The Top Contributor, named Autocrat, named the thread May Day Monster!. In short, he seems extremely upset that although Google has offered clear advice on how to reverse the impact of a site hit by the May Day update, that advice doesn't
  • 65% Say The Google Sandbox Still Exists
A week ago, we ran a new poll asking our readers if they feel the Google Sandbox still exists. The 175+ results are now in and I wanted to share them with you. 66.1% said the Google Sandbox still exists33.9% said the Google Sandbox does not exist. We ran a similar poll last year where the results were about the same. Here is some more history on the Google Sandbox. The Google Sandbox goes back
  • 55% Say Yahoo/Microsoft Deal With Increase CPC Prices
About a week ago, I ran a poll asking if CPC prices will increase after the Yahoo/Microsoft search ad deal transitions over. Most those who replied said yes. 55% of the 71 responses, yes, not our largest poll, said the prices of the keywords on a cost-per-click level will increase. 30% said the prices will remain about the same. Only 7% said the prices will decrease and 8.5% said they really don't know. Here is
  • YouTube Updates Search Bar Design
Some people are noticing a new search bar on Google's YouTube. Here are before and after pictures: Before: After: At the time I wrote this post, which was on September 27th, I did not see the new one. But Hebbet noticed this and posted it at the Google Blogoscoped Forums thread. This is clearly not a major change but figured I note it here, just so we have it documented.
