Search Engine Community & April Fools Day

Yesterday was April 1, also known as April Fools Day. First let me go over the different stunts from the search community and search engine companies.

Search Engine Roundtable: We went with a design that had signs that we were possibly hacked into. No we didn't take the extreme that Matt Cutts went through (see Search Engine Land) mostly because we did not want to drop all our pages. Anyway, here is our look:

WebmasterWorld: You have to love what Brett did over at WebmasterWorld. The ad-free forum put Google AdSense on the site. I seriously wonder how much Brett brought in with this one day stunt. He is a partial screen capture:

I believe that covers the forums, but I may have missed some, if so, please let me know.

Now to the various search engine stunts...

Matt Cutts of Google: He totally hacked his own site, more details at Search Engine Land and Matt's twitter post. What is funny is his recent twitter post where he said, "scary. some data centers showing pages dropped for mattcutts.com already. man our crawl is fast. ironic if i have to file for reinclusion." Now that would be funny. Kind of wonder if that was part of his point. ;-)

Google TiSP Wireless: Danny again has awesome coverage of this...

Now posted on the Google Blog, news of the new Google TiSP service offering free wireless to homes via their, ahem, plumbing systems. Sir Thomas Crapper would be proud. See discussion at Techmeme. Google's latest feature will better connect you with previous Google products that have been rolled out on the first of April: Google Romance in 2006, Google Gulp drinks in 2005, Gmail in 2004 (hey, that was real!) and PigeonRank in 2002. What happened in 2003? Google was very serious in 2003 and unable to release any new products.

Gmail Paper: More at http://mail.google.com/mail/help/paper/more.html where Google will mail you your email.

Everyone loves Gmail. But not everyone loves email, or the digital era. What ever happened to stamps, filing cabinets, and the mailman? Well, you asked for it, and it’s here. We’re bringing it back.

Ask.com Buys Kevin Federline's "Search With Kevin": Jim Lanzone, CEO of Ask.com, is a very witty and funny man. He came up with this video post announcing the Ask.com Acquires Kevin Federline's "Search With Kevin".

That is what I got so far for April 1. Feel free to comment with things I have missed.
